Lower back pain is the leading cause of healthcare visits worldwide, particularly in developed countries. In this clinical condition, the predominant symptom is pain, which can be localized, diffuse, and/or radiated to the lower limb(s). In addition to sometimes debilitating pain, other factors influence both the onset and resolution prognosis, such as fear of movement, beliefs related to spinal fragility, excessive use of medication or imaging tests (in this case, their existence is absolutely unnecessary in over 80% of patients), etc.
It is an area where, especially when the pain is persistent and longstanding, the treatment has to go far beyond the techniques performed in the office. It is essential to provide the patient with sufficient literacy to manage the problem in their daily lives. This way, the applied treatment becomes a long-term solution, allowing the patient to move freely and without fear. Thus, it is possible to achieve faster and more lasting results, reversing a global trend where, in recent decades, the number of people affected by lower back pain has doubled.
